It’s 2025. We can buy everything: treadmills for dogs, inflatable barbecues, butter-cutting handles. Everything. Is. For. Sale. Everything? ALMOST everything. Because where do you buy self-reflection? Or a listening ear? What shop offers you comfort? Or ideals? Is there truly no store for all your immaterial needs? Yes, there is — because from now on, there’s De Laatste Winkel. Here you can buy a bit of patience, a pat on the back from your father, or a dash of mischief.
De Laatste Winkel is therefore the first store that makes the immaterial marketable, finally completing consumerism once and for all. ith your help, we can start selling every immaterial need. Just like that. In a store.

About De Laatste Winkel

De Laatste Winkel (The Last Store) is a conceptual art project by Robin van Gelder, developed and designed in collaboration with Sebastiaan van Lunteren and Joost Stoof.

What is De Laatste Winkel?

DLW is an initiative by consumers and creators to map out all our immaterial desires and create offerings for them.

Why De Laatste Winkel?

In our consumer society, almost EVERYTHING was for sale. The promise of “every demand creates supply” has nearly been fulfilled. Nearly. For even the smallest material wish, there is now a product. All stores exist. Almost all. The ONLY thing still missing is an answer to all our immaterial desires. You’ll find that with us: De Laatste Winkel.

How does De Laatste Winkel work?

De Laatste Winkel operates on the principle of supply and demand. When consumers indicate a specific desire, we get to work on the supply. This offering is developed in collaboration with designers, financiers, artists, and the consumers themselves.

Who is De Laatste Winkel for?

De Laatste Winkel is for anyone with a need, or anyone searching for something for someone else who has a need. That can be anything—as long as it’s immaterial.

I don’t get it — are there professionals who can explain this?
